The figures reinforce an old stereotype, but that doesn’t make it any less alarming.

According to a study of almost 90,000 adolescents, only seven per cent of adolescents between 12 and 15 who had used cannabis in the past are getting the 60 minutes of daily physical activity recommended by the World Health Organization. And that percentage is even lower for current cannabis users.

The findings of the international study, which included a researcher from the University of Toronto, suggest that cannabis use (and its effect on physical activity among adolescents) should be considered more often when doctors design interventions to improve the health of adolescents.
